Shortage of Police Is Hitting the Smaller Cities

And the residents are noticing the rise in crime. Elderly residents say they fear for their safety in high crime Opelousas neighborhoods

Opelousas, Louisiana is about 100 miles west of Baton Rouge. The Wiki describes it as a "small city" with a population between 16 and 17 thousand people. And they are dealing with a shortage of police.

Another homeowner who declined to be on camera tells us the shootings have gotten so bad, they fear for the disabled elderly in the neighborhood.

Chief McLendon says he understands the concerns elderly homeowners have and encourages them to not only report the direct crimes, but also asks for patience as the department is experiencing a shortage of officers.

For a while, I thought the police shortage was in the Blue cities. Now maybe Opelousas is a small blue city, and maybe the police shortage was more widespread than I realized.

If no one wants to be a cop, not even in the countryside, then things are going to fall apart fairly quickly. Faster than I expected them to, anyway.

Society is built on security. Investing in the future is not something you do if you can't be sure you will have your investment tomorrow.
