Three Chicago police officers — Andy Dobda, Durand Lee and Patricia Swank — have died by suicide in the past month, highlighting a crisis within the agency, some said.
Weeks without a day off. Missing family milestones - like birthdays and graduations and vacations. And they don't have nice things to say about the limited counseling that is available.
Meanwhile, back in the self-delusional land of the Brass...
After Dobda’s death this weekend, Supt. David Brown held a news conference Monday where he defended the agency canceling days off and said the department hopes to soon be able to offer more help.
Because you can work people to death, tell them they suck, with no end in sight, drag them through scenes of trauma and mayhem, offer little in the way of support, and that won't have any repercussions. At least that is the position of Brown.
