Because buying oil from Canada would be bad for the environment. Or something. Democrat Policy: Keystone Pipeline Would Have Delivered 830,000 Barrels of Oil a Day to US -- More than Current Daily Russian Imports
Current Russian imports are 670,000 barrels per day, with the price of West Texas Intermediate and Brent Crude both above $100 per barrel, you can do the math.
Sanctions? They don't touch energy.
So why is shipping (in ships) that much oil from Russia a good idea, but buying that much oil from Canada is a bad idea?
