One of them anyway. Sex assaults hit 20-year high in Near North Chicago police district as cases return to pre-pandemic levels across city - Chicago Sun-Times.
The Near North in Chicago speak, is Streeterville, and River North, and other places, just north of the Loop, near the Lake, encompassing the (formerly) Magnificient Mile, and a district that includes a large number of bars, and restaurants. Some of my favorite restaurants are still there, even after the COVID lockdowns.
And while the numbers of reported crimes are disturbing, the sad truth is that a lot of times, the crime is not reported. Because victims know it does accomplish much.
A 2020 report by the Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation revealed that Chicago police did not make an arrest in roughly 80-90% of sex-related crimes between 2010 and 2019.
The dismal record of the State's Attorney and her band of inept prosecutors doesn't help.
"After a night out in River North earlier this year, a Chicago woman headed to what she thought was an afterparty in a nearby hotel room."
ReplyDeleteWell shit, what did you think was going to happen? (not blaming the victim, but better decisions need to be made)
No mention of the race of the victims or attackers. (city wide)
