In this case, Austin is one of the 77 neighborhoods in The People's Republic of Chicago, and not a city in Texas. Intruder shot after breaking into home in South Austin - Chicago Sun-Times
A man was shot and seriously wounded after he broke into a home in South Austin Tuesday.
A resident of the home in the 5800 block of West Iowa Street saw the man enter and shot him in his hand, flank and elbow just before 6:30 p.m., Chicago Police said.
Austin is one of the more dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago. According to HeyJackass!, it is currently in the number 3 spot, behind Englewood and Garfield Park. There have been 42 homicides in the Austin neighborhood this year, and an additional 170 people have been shot and wounded.
The only thing police have said is that the shooter owned the gun legally.
The guy who got shot is in a local hosptial in serious condition.
Self-defense is a human-right, and it might even be your legal right in Chicago, though I wouldn't count on it. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.
