How old do you need to be to defend yourself and your family? Louisiana boy, 12, shoots and kills armed burglar who broke into his home and threatened his mother
This incident took place at the begining of July, but I missed it. Good thing the London press is so obsessed with self-defense in America.
The would-be bad-guy was armed. He met the woman outsider of her Louisiana home and forced her inside, where a struggle began.
Her son, who authorities have not named, feared for his mother’s life and shot LeBlanc with a hunting rifle, said Sheriff Jeffrey Travis.
The Vidalia man was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Travis said his office doesn’t have evidence at this time that would incriminate the boy and there are no plans to file charges against him, according to The Advocate.
Two other people have been arrested in this case, one was charged with burglary, 2nd degree murder, (which in this case would be what most of us call felony murder), and another was charged with being an accessory after the fact. Both were booked into the county, or parish in Louisiana, lockup.
The guy who got shot had a lengthy criminal record. Oh, and his relatives and girlfriend want you to know that he was a great guy.
Arrest records reveal that LeBlanc had an extensive criminal history in Louisiana, which included charges of drug manufacturing and possession, theft, being a fugitive, resisting an officer and trespassing.
Had he survived, a few more charges would have been added to that list.
Hat tip to Wirecutter, who notes: F*cked around and found out.
