The initial investigation found that the woman who was shot had smashed the sliding glass door with a fire extinguisher. The homeowners then armed themselves with a firearm and told the woman to keep away, the sheriff's office said.
Officials said the intruder kept trying to get into the home and threatened to kill the homeowners.
