A study published in May of 2021 has rigorously shown such events do not reduce crime or suicides. Instead, the number of crimes committed with guns increases in the two months after the turn-in events (“buybacks”) are conducted.
The study was published by the National Bureau of Economics in Cambridge, Massachusetts
