The End of Daft Punk

Daft Punk came along during a time when I wasn't listening, much, to House Music. My clubbing days were coming to an end, and while I listened to some stuff that I owned, such as Yello, I wasn't looking for new House Music. Not that I haven't heard of them. Their stage personas are legendary. But for whatever reason, I just never followed them or their music.

They would still show up from time to time, with a hit single, or with the Tron: Legacy soundtrack album.

They called it quits after 28 years. Daft Punk Break Up.

Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo formed Daft Punk in Paris in 1993, helping to define the French touch style of house music. Their debut album, 1997’s Homework, was a dance music landmark, featuring classic singles “Around the World” and “Da Funk.” By the release of its follow-up, Discovery, in 2001, the duo had taken to making public appearances in the robot outfits that became their trademark.

This song is "Da Funk" by Daft Punk. It was a single in 1995, and included on their 1997 debut album Homework.

For anyone interested , there is a short, 8-minute film, “Epilogue,” excerpted from their 2006 film Electroma via which then announced the breakup.

  1. I do miss Boris Blank and Dieter Meyer (?) of Yello, which I was into before they used their "Oh, Yeah" song for Ferris Buellers Day Off. Music composition is like love: it grows and decays, it never stands still. It's unfortunate that Daft Punk broke up but hopefully the duo has other projects to add to their oeuvre, but history shows that subsequent fame is rare. The Police can spawn Sting, but does anybody remember the works of Steward Copeland? Few are the bands like Genesis, The Who, or Nirvana that can spawn entire side careers - like Peter Gabriel, Roger Daltry, and Dave Grohl.

This is just my humble opinion.

    1. Yello put out an album in 2016 and another in 2020. So they aren't quite gone.

I did like some of the stuff off the 2016 album, I haven't done more than scratch the surface of the 2020 album.

Though Dieter Meier is 75, and looks older to me, so I don't think there will be many more...
