I would just like to say that Western Civilization was fun while it lasted.
Our first story: Two 14-year-olds fatally stab Uber Eats delivery person. What were you doing when you were 14? 2 Texas 14-year-olds fatally stabbed woman delivering food for Uber Eats, police say.
They were committing a robbery.
The boys are charged with capital murder in the death of Ryan Munsie Graham, 31, of Fort Worth. They are accused of stabbing Graham, a wife and mother of three, in the neck outside the Northern Cross Apartments in Haltom City, police officials said.
Have you no shame? Chicago edition. Group beats, robs passenger on Red Line, police say.
A group of up to eight offenders beat and robbed a 61-year-old man aboard a Red Line train in River North Friday morning, police said.
River North used to be a very nice neighborhood. I don't think those exist in Chicago anymore.
Eight people to beat up a 61-year-old man. Really?
Have you no shame? Florida edition. Broward County beating, carjacking suspect arrested in Port St. Lucie
Antonio Romano, 28, arrested Thursday after deputies say he attacked 63-year-old woman in Oakland Park
Really? A 63-year-old woman? He is charged with attempted murder.
More teens and Uber drivers. Detroit teens charged as adults in Uber driver's slaying
A 16-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl are being charged as adults in the robbery and fatal stabbing of an Uber driver in Detroit. [SNIP]
Police found Timothy Perkins, 60, of Southfield, in a southwest Detroit alley on Jan. 21. He had been beaten with a hammer and suffered multiple stab wounds to his body. He later died at a hospital.
Finally from Louisiana... Louisiana girl, 15, stabbed to death; 4 younger girls arrested. It is the 3rd killing in six months involving children just in one parish.
The main instigator is a 13-year-old; the other three are 12, 13, and 14 years old.
"This is not something we can police ourselves out of," Sheriff Mancuso said. "This is a parenting issue. I'm asking you tonight for our parents to take control."
Parents actually parenting? What a concept. (With 4 kids involved, I'm sure someone will be along to say, "She's a good girl!")
I could go on, of course, but I am already depressed. Civilizations ebb and flow, and it has been a long time since I thought ours was going anywhere but down the tubes.
Because why not kill someone for a few bucks, or over a social media post? Life means nothing. Your life means nothing.
How can anybody in this country be against the death penalty.
ReplyDeleteThat's easy. The Criminal Justice System in Chicago is crazy. Has been for decades.
DeleteIn the 1980s Jon Burge (a PD captain or commander or something) and all the cops that worked for him would, when faced with a "high profile" case, instead of doing real police work to find the real bad guy, would take a shortcut.
They would pick some random guy - usually a random black guy - off the street and torture him until he confessed. Broken bones. Electric shock. Use your imagination. Then they would hand the confession to the Assistant State's Attorney for Cook County and send the "suspect" to the hospital. Usually they had to go to the hospital.
Some of those guys ended up on death row. Jon Burge did some time for conspiracy to obstruct justice, but most of the cops were never even reprimanded, and the attorneys claim that they didn't know nothing about no police torture.
So yeah, while some people probably have earned a death sentence, I don't trust the government enough to want to put that kind of power in their hands.
And besides. Death isn't a punishment; it comes for us all, eventually.
And of course it isn't just in Chicago. But that is, or was, home, and so I know a lot about the insanity that went on there.
