Because no doubt that all of Chicago's problems stem from statues in parks - that are currently covered in snow. Column: Crime, taxes, closed schools or clogged side streets. But Lightfoot focuses on statues. - Chicago Tribune
And Groot is a not-so-affectionate nickname for mayor Lori Lightfoot. Who I still don't think looks like Beetlejuice.
Chicago homicides and carjacking numbers skyrocket, taxpayers continue to flee, many of the city’s side streets and alleys are impassable because of snow, and the city’s public schools aren’t fully open.
Yet what occupies Mayor Lori Lightfoot? Chicago’s cultural revolution and the eradication of “problematic statues” of “potentially” offensive statuary in the city’s parks.
The "problematic" statues include Lincoln and Washington, of course.
But what did Leif Ericson ever do to Chicago?
I don't remember if there is a statue of Casimir Pulaski in Chicago or not. (There should be.) But if there was, I'm sure the offended would want it removed. (Note: He didn't own slaves, came over here from Poland to fight in our Revolution, and is credited with founding the US Calvary.)
How many voters can Groot distract?
