Mr. Luty's Gun Lives on

While all the buzz lately is for 3D-printed weapons, we should not forget one of the earliest "improvised" firearms to make a splash, the sub-machine gun designed by PA Luty, of Great Britain. Man charged over homemade submachine guns.

If you're not familiar with this homebuilt firearm, there are a couple of photos at that link, as well as a copy of Expedient Homemade Firearms: 9mm Machine Pistol.

The story was from December, but then we were all a bit distracted in December.

The hat tip goes to Impro Guns: PA Luty submachine guns seized in NSW Australia.

Impro Guns also provided this link to a 2013 video of more Luty Machine Pistols that Australian police confiscated and fired. They are quite well designed, and the one in the video appears to be well made.

Forgotten Weapons has a nice video (9 minutes) on the subject. Weapons as Political Protest: P.A. Luty's Submachine Gun
