Car Thieves in a Gated Community?

So much for the gated community idea. Also, don't "confront" thieves, in order to speak harshly to them. Thieves open fire on homeowner in Havre de Grace gated community

The incident happened at Bulle Rock, a high-end residential community built around a golf course. Havre de Grace police say a number of suspects entered the neighborhood to steal vehicles.

Remind me again, how do gated communities work?

Havre de Grace, Maryland is about a 35 mile drive northeast of Baltimore. It is located on the mouth of the Susquehanna River, where that river pours into the Chesapeake Bay.

They stole a "Dodge Charger-type vehicle." Was it a Charger, or a Challenger, or something else? They were attempting to steal a RAM pickup.

The owner of the pickup truck was still awake at 2 a.m. Saturday when his alarm system sent him a notification. After spotting the suspects on his security cameras, he ran outside to confront them.

They left, but they fired shots at the truck owner, his house, and several vehilces while they were leaving.

"The individuals were clearly prepared to conduct some sort of criminal activity," [Major Joseph Alton of the Havre de Grace Police Department] said. "Clearly bold in regard to they were willing to shoot at somebody over a vehicle theft. Again, not the average guy is willing to take a shot at another person over a vehicle theft."

I would say Major Alton hasn't been paying attention to reality in quite some time. Maybe the crime in Havre de Grace is sedate, but crime in blue cities is out of control, and people will shoot you over next-to-nothing.

So he kept his truck, and didn't get shot. That 2nd part was mostly a matter of luck. Luck is not a strategy, not when the downside is being shot, having someone in your house, or a neighbor's house, shot. Your righteous indignation doesn't make you bulletproof.
