I'm surprised they didn't just call him a "teen" or "teenager." Armed 17-Year-Old Shot Trying To Carjack Off-Duty State Trooper At Gas Station: Police | Rivertowns, NY Patch
The Yonkers Police Department says that on Sunday, around 12:45 p.m., they received a call from an off-duty New York State trooper, assigned to New York City, requesting assistance at the Mobil gas station on Kimball Avenue.
Yonkers is about 10 miles north of NYC on the Hudson River.
He pulled a knife, and she shot him in the left arm. He did get away for a short distance in her car, but not far.
Cops found him at a nearby apartment building.
Medical aid was administered at the scene, and the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and remains in stable condition.
Charges include first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, third-degree robbery, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The investigation is in early days.
Self-defense is a human right, even if you're an off-duty cop. This took place in New York, so whether it is a legal right, is anyone's guess.
