Another song that comes to us by way of WXRT's Saturday Morning Flashback. WXRT (Chicago's Finest Rock) was revisiting 1984 in early march.
Post Punk - what the suits insisted on calling New Wave - was a bit strange, even by the standards of the 1980s, and the 1980s were a strange time. The height of the Cold War impacted culture in many ways. Even though no one thought about it much, the fact that nuclear war was real possibility sort of hung over everything. Listening to this song takes me back to my (mostly) misspent youth.
This song is "Girlfriend Is Better" from Talking Heads from their 1984 album Speaking in Tongues.
The suits running the music business in the 1980s hated Punk, even when they were making money off of it. So when Post Punk evolved, they had to have another name for it.
