The Show for No One

Hollywood needs to stop with the Reboots. They need to stop with sequels, prequels, re-imagining, new time-lines, whatever. But they can't. They are addicted to the idea of "mining IP," even though that idea hasn't worked in a while.

Marvin Montanaro the Movie Monster is editor for That Park Place and Geeks and Gamers. He showed up on a couple of podcasts/YouTube channels I listen to, and/or watch, and I've come to like his take on the entertainment business. While he doesn't hit the financials as hard as Valliant Renegade, he does cover the business.

This is the M4 Empire video NO ONE Wants This Harry Potter Series

Everyone picks a side. And yet somehow Warner Brothers has managed to unite both sides in saying, "Yeah, no thanks to this Harry Potter series."

The left has spent years trying to burn this franchise to the ground. And the right, well, they were still here, still buying, still supporting, and now they're walking away, too, because of decisions like Black Snape and the constant attacks on JK Rowling.

Which means that this show, this massive, expensive, years in the making reboot, has achieved something almost impressive in its failure. It's become a show for no one.

Warner Brothers, which is not the most successful Hollywood studio in existence, tried to appease the Left, and still do a Harry Potter show. In the process they pissed off everyone who wasn't on the far Left. They are left with very expensive show, that no one is interested in.

The video is about 14 minutes long.
