HeyJackass! brings us the Chicago January Wrap-up
The return of the Polar Vortex on the back half of the month helped keep a lid on the nonsense or maybe it was the Justice Involved Violence Influencers™ hitting the streets in sub-zero temps.
The final totals for January were 31 killed, 103 shot and wounded. That was a slight decrease from January 2025, and down significantly from 2021 or 2022. And yes, the level of crime is influenced by the weather, especially extreme cold and snow, though even heavy rain can have a measurable impact.

In other stats, one non-fatal shooting was deemed to be justified self-defense.
