On January 25th, 2013, we launched a questionably named site with the simple idea of illustrating “Chicago values”. To this day, we still have no idea what Chicago values are or what they are supposed to represent. Regardless, it made for a fantastic tagline.
In the past 13 years, we’ve recorded over 8,100 homicides, more than 34,000 shot and wounded, nearly 500 “death investigations”, over 70 “Brandon’s Bodies” and over a billion dollars in CPD overtime all of which have resulted in over 43,000 rows and 1.2 million manually entered, silly decision-related data points.
