Social Media reminded me that Mose Allison's birthday was this past Tuesday. Looking him up, I discovered that he passed away on 15 November. I thought it would be fitting to remember him.
There was a time, many, many years ago, when my mother insisted I take piano lessons. Living in a small town, there were not too many choices for teacher. There was one, however, who could have taught me jazz piano, which is what I wanted to learn. Unfortunately, he moved away to pursue his career in a larger city.
Mose Allison was never my favorite jazz pianist, but his blending of blues and jazz, means he was on the radar.
This is "The Seventh Son" by Mose Allison. It was a single released from his 1958 album Creek Bank. The song was written by legendary blues songwriter and vocalist, Willie Dixon.
