The Failure of Knife Control in the UK

Doug Ross brings us a story from that place where Great Britain used to be. The UK's Assault Knife Crisis: It's the kitchen utensils, not the migrants

Knife crime wasn’t generally measured in the United Kingdom until around 2015.

Now there are regular almanacs published on the topic, the most recent last month.

In typical liberal/progressive fashion, the Brits have decided that the problem is not the people who are wielding the knives, but the inanimate objects themselves.

Instead of finding and punishing the people responsible, and perhaps noting what groups are bring the crime to England, the geniuses in charge have proposed some "controls" that will fail to control anything.

  • Blunting the Points on All Knives: every kitchen knife in the UK must be rounded off at the tip to prevent stabbings. Yes, that was a real policy discussed in a BBC documentary on knife crime.
  • Installing Machete Drop Boxes: suggested in the UK, trialed in Australia, and ridiculed globally.
  • Taxes on kitchen knives.

There were more proposals, equally, or perhaps more, insane.

Clearly the person who suggested that first item does no cooking, and certainly no cleaning of game, or filleting of fish. (There is a reason expensive chefs' kinves from Germany are pointed.)

Click thru, though none of it is surprising.
