And so we come to that time of year that I hate, and love. Christmas is wonderful in the abstract, and I loved it as a kid, but the commercialization has gone way beyond crushing the life out of Christmas and has morphed into a menace on its own. A couple of years back I bought some noise-cancelling earbuds, so I don't have to listen to the endless stream of Christmas carols. It would not be bad if it was an endless stream, but it is the same 12 Christmas carols wherever you go.

We crossed the Macinaw Bridge on to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and turned west on Rt. 2 along Lake Michigan. Even though the views were spectacular I was looking a road north to take us up to Lake Superior. I picked a road off the map and turned north onto the road less traveled.
