Three guys break into a home. At least one of them is armed with an AR-15 style rifle.
The residents of the home were sheltering in a locked bedroom. The suspects kicked open the door.
As the door was breached, the victim saw one of the suspects carrying an AR-15-style rifle and opened fire, striking Leatherwood, according to the report.
The remaining suspects fled the scene, while the victim detained Leatherwood until police arrived, the report stated.
Miami Gardens is about halfway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, though it is inland a bit, being about 5 miles from the coast.
So after he got shot, and was treated for his injury, he was arrested and hauled off to the Miami-Dade lockup. He is being charged with one count each of attempted felony murder with a firearm and four counts of armed home invasion robbery. Bail had not been set when the article was published
