Racist Gun Control in Chicago

Chicago PD doesn't not have the best history when it comes to actually enforcing the law. Black gun owners in Chicago charged with felonies despite valid FOID cards, CCLs; say they're traumatized - CBS Chicago

An investigation by CBS News Chicago uncovered several times where police stopped Black gun owners for minor traffic violations and then charged them with felonies -- even though they had legal firearm licenses.

It is not just the cops. The prosecutors are happy to file charges without doing the least research.

One of those drivers is 46-year-old Louis McWilliams, a Tinley Park resident who owns a local cheesecake company, Ann's Flavored Cheesecakes. He was charged with a felony in April after being pulled over on Chicago's South Side on his way to a business meeting. The case was later dismissed.

I'm no lawyer, but it sounds like legal action might be appropriate against Chicago PD and the lawyers. And at least one is planned.

CPD is also not giving the guns back.

Williams has not received his gun back from CPD. And despite a court order from a judge, neither has Washington.

Click thru, there is more. (Hat tip to Clayton Cramer)

  1. I have to wonder if this phenomenon is reserved only for black lawful gun owners or is CPD doing the same thing to whites? I'm guessing that CBS is trying to push the racism angle, but the liberal media does that with everything, so is race the significant issue here or is it just general bigotry against gun owners?

    1. I don't know how things are recently in Chicago, but CPD does have a history of being racist. Most of my knowledge of that dates to the 80s and 90s - when I lived in Chicago, and then in the suburbs.

See The Ongoing Case Against Jon Burge and Chicago Police Corruption. Jon Burge was commander of "the Midnight Crew from Area 2." When confronted with a high-profile crime, they would grab some random black guy off the street, and torture him until he confessed. They would then drop the blood-soaked confession off with the prosecutors, and take the "suspect" either to jail or the hospital. Eventually they convicted Burge of conspiracy to obstruct Justice or something, because the statue of limitations had run out on everything else.

    2. More recently there were cops extorting residents of Chicago housing projects.

See I’m Shocked – Shocked – to Discover Chicago Cops Extorting Citizens. That is in 2017.

15 convictions were overturned, and more were under investigation, at least one cop had been arrested and served time.

That was "pay up" or face felony-level drug charges. That went on until they tried it with an FBI informant working in Chicago. That was an entire "tactical team" screwing with people in the projects.

  2. The metropolitan police department I used to work for (as a civilian) used to keep firearms they were required to give back stored in a container lined with damp cardboard. You can guess the rest
