Self-Defense Is Legal in California

Prosecutors hate that. From KSBW: Jury acquits man in deadly shooting at California car wash

After a day of deliberation, a San Benito County jury reached a verdict in the shooting death of a man at a Hollister car wash in 2024.

Hollister, California is about 45 minute drive south-southeast of San Jose.

I am not surprised that a California DA would bring these charges. I am surprised that jury of Californians would acquit. I can find very little information about the incident itself, so I have no way of judging the evidence for myself. I'm also shocked that the incident took place last year, and they've gotten to a murder trial. The Right to a Speedy Trial has been lacking since COVID, at least in a lot of jurisdictions that are the subject of articles that cross my news feeds.

Self-defense is a human Right. It might be your legal right in California, but I'm not sure I would count on that. One of the many reasons that I have no plans to ever return to California. It used to be a nice place to visit. It isn't anymore.
