Don't store or charge electric vehicles in your home. And don't use aftermarket crap. Explosion at Ludlow home caused by electric scooter battery, officials say
The State Fire Marshal's Office says a lithium-ion battery from an electric scooter was the cause of a large fire at a Ludlow home on Tuesday afternoon.
According to investigators, the battery was failing to charge, and the homeowner used an aftermarket charger.
So instead of paying for new battery... I'm guessing this was a kid of the family living at the house in question.
The blaze broke out just before 4 p.m. at 56 Haviland St. There were no reports of any injuries, but flames could be seen shooting from the windows, causing significant property damage.
As for the recommendations going forward... After the usual "look both ways before crossing the street" level of recommendations...
"Always use the manufacturer's recommended equipment when charging lithium-ion batteries," State Fire Marshal Davine said. "Aftermarket accessories may not be compatible with the battery and have been associated with a rising number of fires."
Like I said, I would not have one of these in my house.
