Tuesday Links - 5 August

Miguel Gonzalez starts things off with a question. Dumb statement of the month.

I wonder what TV show he got this deep knowledge in terminal ballistics. CSI: BubbaTown, TN?

William Teach at Pirate's Cove - The Taliban Wants To Be Included In Climate (scam) Talks Or Something

What the Taliban wants, really, is free climate scam money and goods. Money and goods with zero strings attached, because they are “owed” the money and goods because 1st World countries live a 1st World life.

Don Surber - When I was young

When I was young, the communists were over there in Moscow and East Berlin.

Now the enemy is on college campuses and in the halls of Congress. They insist there is no God, no countries and no possessions too.

Matt Taibbi - No Doubt Left: Russiagate Was a Cover-Up

It wasn’t the start of a corruption story about Trump, but the cover-up of a still-unresolved Hillary Clinton scandal. This is purely a Clinton corruption story, probably the last in a long line, as neither Bill nor Hillary will have careers when it’s finished, if they stay out of jail.

The Other McCain - RussiaGate: ‘But I Didn’t Know Until This Day That It Was Hillary Clinton All Along’

Of course I’m kidding. We’ve all known from the get-go who was really behind the “Russian collusion” hoax, but I just had to use that line from The Godfather now, because the release of the so-called Durham annex (previously classified evidence obtained by John Durham during his Special Counsel investigation)

Campus Reform - UMich accepted over $270M in foreign funds, Campus Reform audit finds; feds launch probe

While our review uncovered over $270 million from 38 nations—including $30 million from China, $28 million from Japan, $18 million from South Korea, and $17 million from Hong Kong—the analysis was limited to available records.
Daily News Stuff 2 August 2025: That Happened Edition

Google has filed an emergency motion in its failed case against Epic, arguing that it needs more time to make the changes ordered. (Thurrott)

Google has been given only 14 days to deliver, which is not a lot of time, true.

But the lawsuit started five years ago, and Epic won the case - on all counts - twenty months ago.

Wombat-socho - FMJRA 2.0: 1973 World Series

While I’m sorting through my roster trying to figure out which ten -I think it’s ten- players I want to keep*, the Cincinnati Reds are playing the Baltimore Orioles for all the marbles in Pete’s league. The Chicago Cubs (79-83) and Montreal Expos (66-96) are looking for new managers, so if you want to give Dynasty League baseball a try, you could do worse than take over one of these teams.

Again from The Other McCain - Why Decca Didn’t Sign the Beatles (and Why That Was Really a Lucky Break)

For the most part, the band on the Decca audition tapes doesn’t even sound like The Beatles, i.e., the group we know from their subsequent recordings for EMI with George Martin as producer.

Wombat-socho again - Rule 5 Sunday: Gother Than Thou

Post title from the Most Pretentious Card Game Ever Made, which is unfortunately out of print.

  1. Thanks for that link to The Other McCain about the Beatles and the Decca audition. "I'm old enough to remember" the '64 Beatles and the overall story, but had never even thought of the Decca audition let alone thought of trying to find the, and just listened to the first two of the Decca songs. What a difference!

Obligatory olde fart story. In late '63 or early '64 my older brother and I (12 and 9 yo) bought our first transistor radios. Yeah, it was when they were sold by the number of transistors. It was the first time I'd ever heard popular music and the Beatles were among the first I ever heard.
