Electronic Monitoring Doesn't Work to Stop Crime

From CWB Chicago we a story, another story, of how it failed. Carjacker gets 10 years for hijacking woman while wearing *two* ankle monitors

At least the woman wasn't injured or killed.

Prosecutors said 32-year-old Keyruni Buford and another man ambushed a 47-year-old woman in the 7600 block of South Champlain Avenue around 2 a.m. on September 16, 2023. The woman was sitting inside her 2021 Nissan Sentra when the pair climbed in and forced her out of the driver’s seat at gunpoint.

Police were able to track the vehicle to a McDonald's, where video shows Buford getting out of the stolen car.

Aside from his ankle monitor showing where he was on the day in question, his phone's location data also shows him at the scene of the crime. He was not released after this arrest.

In October 2016, he was one of three men accused of attacking and robbing a 64-year-old Boystown resident. Police said Buford had the victim’s credit cards and cash. ...

At the time of that robbery, Buford was already on parole for mugging another Boystown resident in 2013.

10 years, which means he will serve 5 years behind bars, minus the 687 days he spent in pretrial detention, and 5 years on parole.
