What If You Called 911, and It Took 90 Minutes for Cops to Show Up?

What would you do? Lengthy police response time under investigation following Maryland dog attack | FOX 5 DC

What we know: The victim, a woman who asked not to be identified, said she was visiting her new home in District Heights last weekend when the attack occurred. The woman was near her vehicle with her 11-month-old rescue dog when the attack happened.

Authorities confirm that a 911 call reporting the attack was placed at 9:54 a.m., but officers did not arrive until 11:17 a.m. That response time is under review, officials said.

What happened is that a good Samaritan, her neighbor, intervened and took her to a local hospital.

Officials have not yet provided an explanation for the delay, but the incident has raised concerns about emergency response times in the area.

From my knowledge of police it could be several things. Not enough cops to cover the shift. (How do you spell, "Defund the police?") It could be screw up at the 911 center. At least this woman got help and is going to be mostly OK. I mostly because we don't have much information on her condition, or if there will be long term effects.

  1. Or both. Actual 'Defund the Police' will result in less non-officers working at a department which means less people at the 911 center.

And lazy 911 operators. They are out there. A small but significant number of 911 operators won't dispatch police due to racial or monetary discrimination. Or they're just lazy.

  2. Consider that it is the District of Columbia. Local government in America, in general, is often marginally competent; in D.C., "marginally competent" is a rather high bar honored mostly in the breach, for any part of the city's government. Emergency services response there is additonally complicated, as it is everywhere, by the massive demand placed upon it; ambulance service, for example, is regarded by many as a form of "taxi service to the doctor."

Congress granted D.C. "Home Rule" in 1973 and that has not been a contributor to stellar public services. Not that keeping the Constitutionally-mandated federal district under Congress' full control would guarantee any substantial improvement.....

actual police work is not like on TV
Police solve only 2% of all crimes. mostly what they do is take reports that people can use for insurance claims. The police came to investigate something that is in all likihood not even a crime. lol
You expected them to arrive with sirens screaming? ready to SWAT that dog?

    1. I understand this, but you would be shocked at how often the gun-hating Left - usually, though not always in the person of a politician - says "just call 911." They say it so much, that a lot of the population believes it. "You don't need a gun, just call 911."

People are shocked to discover that, even if you have a restraining order, the cops are not there to protect you. There have been at least 2 SCOTUS decisions doing that.

So you might want to read a bit of my writing before going off.
