Multiple Buses Burn in Philadelphia

There were electric buses stored in this lot. We don't know (or they aren't saying, anyway) if they caused the fire, but they surely contributed to the fire. 40 SEPTA buses damaged in fire at bus yard in Nicetown section of Philadelphia

The real story is how the buses were parked. They were parked in such a way that there was NO chance for firefighters to do anything. They could get close to the fire. The buses were parke so close together that a fire in 1 bus was almost guaranteed to destroy a bunch of them. And with electric buses mixed in, whatever caused the fire, toxic fumes were going to be released.

You could read the article above, and it does have a couple of good photos of the situation, but I recomend watching the video below. It is from Patrick Durham at StacheD Training. He has 19 Years experience as a firefighter, and is currently Captain at Station 4 of the Troy Fire Department in Michigan. He is also a Mechanical Engineer with experience working on advanced development projects in the automotive industry.

This is the StacheD Training video Massive 3rd Alarm Fire: Philly’s Bus Depot

If the entire lot had been filled with diesel buses, they could have sat there for a century and probably just rusted. They would have rusted away. Diesel busses don't spontaneously ignite, when they're parked, long term.

The video is just under 5 minutes.
