Was this another failure of the victim-selection process? Man shot in Wilmington, NC, died in act of self-defense, police say
A woman shot [36-year-old James] Scott after he pulled out a knife, came towards her and threatened to kill her, according to the news release. A firearm, knife, shell casing and cell phone were located at the scene. Detectives determined that Scott was the initial aggressor in the incident.
She was in a group of people. Maybe he thought she was the easiest target. He was wrong.

Police detained three people for questioning, but ultimately no one was arrested.
Self-defense is a human right, and North Carolina is not New Jersey.
Language matters and we need to stop using the word "detained" when it involves interacting with cops. If you aren't free to walk away if you wish you are NOT "detained"...you have been arrested. Changing the word used to describe it in noway changes the reality. They use the wrong word to avoid getting sued for wrongfully arresting people. But if your interaction with them is against your will it IS an arrest.
