Hollywood's Creative Bankruptcy Marches On

Hollywood, having no ability to create something new, is going to reboot some old TV shows. Do the kids today even know these shows?

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Land of the Giants, and The Time Tunnel are going to be dusted off, and "updated with modern sensibilities." That doesn't sound good.

And be fair... these shows, with the possible exception of Voyage, were not that good. Dave Cullen describes Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea as "Star Trek, under water." That may be fair, but it still doesn't mean that a "modern take" is needed, or will work.

This is The Dave Cullen Show video Hollywood’s Endless Cycle of Remakes

... a kind of cultural strip mining or scavenging of classic sci-fi shows.

I have long been convinced that Hollywood is not capable of doing anything new. This doesn't change that one bit. The video is 6 minutes long.

Consider the Oscars. I don't even know what all films were nominated but for Best Picture, but I have heard...

  • Anora is like Showgirls sponsored by OnlyFans
  • Dune, parts 1 and 2 suffer being genre; Hollywood HATES genre films. (Some Academy members couldn't be bothered to watch Dune, Part 2.)

Actually Anora sounds more like Pretty Woman with disapproving parents, but I haven't seen the movie.
