EV Chargers Contain a Lot of Copper

While a lot of them are covered by cameras, not all are. Lidl EV chargers sawn off by copper-hunting thieves | Worcester News

It seems UK copper thieves have discovered a plentiful source.

THIEVES cut through electric vehicle chargers at a supermarket car park in the latest in a spate of cable thefts in Worcestershire.

Three rapid chargers outside Lidl in Kidderminster Road, Droitwich Spa, were stolen by criminals sawing off the cables.

Since not nearly enough copper is being mined/produced to meet the Net Zero goals that governments all over the world have set, copper is becoming more expensive. Which means more of it is being stolen.

I'm shocked. Not really. (Hat tip to MGUY Australia)

  1. A common occurrence anywhere low lifes can be found . At any given time a quarter to a third of public chargers are offline due to vandalism and copper theft.
