Bets on whether on not he loses his job? Chicago shooting: Concealed Carry License holder garbage truck driver shoots attempted armed robbery suspects in Homan Square: CPD - ABC7 Chicago
A 28-year-old man working as a garbage truck driver was outside in the 900-block of South Homan Avenue when two other men approached him, took out a gun and announced a robbery, police said.
Police said that's when an exchange of gunfire ensued between the suspects and the victim, who has a valid [Firearms Owner ID] card and [Concealed Carry License].
Homan Square is a neighborhood on the west side of Chicago that takes its name from a park. It gained some notoriety a few years back because of a police detention facility in an old Sears warehouse in the area.
One of the two would-be bad guys was shot in the head, and died on the scene. The other was shot in the neck, and was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The truck is owned by Flood Brothers Disposal. No word on whether or not being armed on the job violates corporate policy. A lot of companies would fire the driver, because companies prefer their employees be defenseless.
Self-defense is a human right. Concealed carry is catching on in Illinois and Chicago. The police are describing this in fairly straight-forward terms that scream self-defense to me, but they certainly don't control the Cook County State's Attorney's office. (If they did, I imagine that more criminals would face serious charges.)
