Commanding Officer of Aircraft Carrier USS Harry S. Truman Relieved of Duty

This has been expected since the collision on the 12th. Commanding officer relieved of duty after USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier crashed into merchant ship near Egypt

Capt. Dave Snowden was “relieved” of his job at the helm of the USS Harry S. Truman and temporarily reassigned following the wild Feb. 12 crash in the Mediterranean Sea, according to the military branch.

“The U.S. Navy holds commanding officers to the highest standard and takes action to hold them accountable when those standards are not met,” the Navy said in a statement.

One thing that wasn't clear earlier in the month was whether or not USS Harry S. Truman would need to return to the US for repairs. That will not be required, and repairs are being made in the Mediterranean.

“While the ship is fully mission capable and the ship conducted flight operations following the collision, pulling into port for emergent repairs will enable the ship to continue deployment as scheduled,” Snowden said in a statement Monday, according to CBS News.
