Agape

I ran across Anneke van Giersbergen because her association with European Heavy Metal. I'm not sure which band I heard first, as she has been associated with several, including at least one Heavy Metal band she started. Her claim to fame is probably her being lead singer for the Rock band The Gathering from the mid 1990s through about 2006 or so. That isn't where I first heard her, but I have heard a fair bit of that music.

Today's song is more acoustic. I haven't listened to much of the album in question, but this song I really like. One of the thing about European bands that I love is the quality of the vocals. Anneke van Giersbergen has a beautiful voice, and this song highlights that.

I don't think you will need a link to the lyrics, but her native language is not English, so I include it for completeness. The lyrics are also in the description of the video on YouTube.

This song is "Agape" by Anneke van Giersbergen from her 2021 solo album The Darkest Skies Are the Brightest.

According to Britannica...

agape, in the New Testament, the fatherly love of God for humans, as well as the human reciprocal love for God. In Scripture, the transcendent agape love is the highest form of love and is contrasted with eros, or erotic love, and philia, or brotherly love.
