A Miguel Gonzalez Musical Interlude

Miguel Gonzalez brings us Sunday Repose

Jaco Pastorious was a bass player. He worked with Herbie Hanncock, Joni Mitchell, Al Di Meola, Pat Metheny, and more. I know of him because of the work he did with Weather Report. He joined that band in 1976 and played on the 1977 album Heavy Weather.

Sadly, he died at the age of 35 in 1987 after a confrontation in a bar where he had been denied access. This was after a struggle with alcohol and drugs.

By 1987, Jaco Pastorius was far removed from his glory days with Weather Report. Per The New York Times, he had previously been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and his erratic behavior and drug and alcohol abuse were well-documented at that point. He was broke, divorced from his second wife, and sleeping in a park in his hometown of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. [Ref. The Tragic 1987 Death Of Jaco Pastorius]
