Especially when it is directed at police. Newport police sued after man says he was arrested for comments
A Northern Kentucky man is suing the Newport Police Department alleging its officers arrested him in retaliation for comments he shouted at police from his girlfriend’s balcony.
Newport is directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati.
About that "allegedly." He was charged with public intoxication. He was in his girlfriend's apartment, and cops called him into the hallway of the building. And arrested him. As soon as it was presented to a judge, the charge was dismissed with prejudice.
... meaning it cannot be refiled.
As for the real reason... A Little Person mouthed off to a cop. Cops don't stand for that. In particular, Officer Ronald Lalumandier wouldn't stand for that. Allegedly.
“The officers merely wanted to arrest him because they wanted to punish him for engaging in speech that they did not appreciate,” the lawsuit states.
It is also questionable how Officer Ronald Lalumandier - give him his 15 minutes of fame - gained access to the locked building. Click thru for those details.
The guy is asking for money, but also wants the Newport, Kentucky Police Department to admit that this behavior is unconstitutional, and to make sure it doesn't happen again.
