Most people don't like House Music. But it takes me back to the late '80s and early '90s when I was going to clubs in and around Chicago. And House Music (originally Warehouse Music) got its start in Chicago. Though I wasn't cool enough to go to clubs like The Warehouse. Still, that was the music that ruled at the time. With some additions from Detroit (Techno) and New York.
So for those of you without those memories, you will just have to endure 5 minutes of Club 357. Or not.
Booka Shade is a German House duo, that I stumbled across when they released their 2nd album in 2006, and in particular their song "Body Language (Interpretation)."
This is "No Memory" by Booka Shade. It was released as a single/EP on January 19th, together with another song we may get to eventually
While not exactly the same as club music from my youth, it isn't far off. That beat would start early in the evening, around 7 PM, depending on the club, and continue, mostly uninterupted until last call. Chicago has, or at least had, 2 types of liquor licenses: 2 AM licenses and 4 AM licenses. During the week (Sunday through Thursday) that was closing time. On Friday and Saturday the 2 AM clubs were open until 3, and 4 am clubs were open until 5. Oh to be young again, though I don't think kids today go to clubs. I would stay out dancing until 4 AM, go out to breakfast with friends, go home wash the gunk out of my hair, and then go to work. I have no idea how I did that. (At least I was riding the trains during that era of my life, and so not driving home from work at the end of the day.)
