This sounds a bit like a domestic-violence situation. Summerville Police arrest man shot by homeowner during break-in attempt
First he was shot, then he was arrested.
He went to one home and tried to gain entry. The homeowner called 911, and then she and her daughter escaped to a neighbor's house. He followed them, and tried to gain access to the neighbor's house.
Maybank, who was holding a burglary tool, was confronted by the homeowner, who was holding a handgun.
The homeowner shot the suspect as he believed he was in fear for himself and the neighbor’s safety.
The suspect fled on foot where he was arrested by the police on Delafield Drive minutes later.
Summerville, South Carolina is about 25 miles northwest of Charleston, though it might take you more than an hour to drive those 25 miles, depending on the time of day.
Cops took the guy who got shot to a local hospital, and then to the county lockup.
Both homeowners were not injured and the homeowner who shot the suspect will not be criminally charged, according to [Captain Ken Driscoll of the Summerville Police Department].
The reason I referenced domestic violence at the outset, is that he seemed very focused on the woman from the first house. We probably won't learn more, because these stories cease to be interesting to the media once the only "action" involves lawyers and plea deals.
Self-defense is a human right.
Nothing changes a perp's agenda quite like a round in the gut. Suddenly his focus is turned elsewhere. Lethal rounds have a more permanent effect. Thus endeth the lesson.
