Home invaders refuse to get that memo. Homeowner shoots, holds intruder at gunpoint until police arrive: LWPD | FOX 13 Tampa Bay
The victim told police that he woke up at his home on the 700 block of South Scenic Hwy. to the sound of his dog barking.
That's when the homeowner said he armed himself and found the intruder, 34-year-old Cameron McGuire, holding some of his child's belongings inside the home.
The intruder didn't listen to the command, "Freeze," issued by the homeowner, but continued to advance towards the homeowner. The homeowner shot the guy in the leg, and summoned the police.
Lake Wales, Florida is about 50 miles due east of Tampa, and about 40 miles south-southwest of Orlando. It is located in Polk County.
Usually when there is a self-defense incident in Polk County, we get a statement from my favorite sheriff, Grady Judd. Instead we get a statement from Lake Wales Police Chief Chris Velasquez.
"This homeowner is a law-abiding citizen and had every right to protect his family," said Velasquez. "Cameron McGuire should be thankful today that he is alive and in jail. Hopefully, this was his wake-up call".
I certainly would not have shot an intruder in the leg, unless I missed my aim. By a lot.
Self-defense is a human right. Good Guys 1, Bad Guys 0.
