UPDATE: Champaign Co. Coroner identifies man involved in home invasion | WCIA
Police were called to a Champaign County home early Sunday morning for a break-in, followed by shots fired.
According to the CPD, an initial investigation shows that the homeowner engaged in a physical altercation with the man who entered the home. During the struggle, the homeowner fired multiple shots. The intruder was killed, and the homeowner was hurt in the discharge of the weapon.
Champaign, Illinois is home to The University of Illinois. It is about a 130 mile drive south of Chicago, or about 145 miles northeast of Saint Louis, Missouri, though if you are driving from Saint Louis it will be closer to 180 miles by car.

“If you believe somebody is coming into your home to do you harm or somebody else harm, you can shoot them and kill them,” said Urbana Criminal Justice Attorney Anthony Bruno.
Laws in Illinois defend a homeowner’s right to defend themselves as well as their property.
“So, the law is pretty lenient toward the homeowner who is exercising reasonable discretion to protect themself in their own home,” Bruno said.
The castle doctrine, is different from stand your ground laws, but it is a start.
