I thought it might be. Fatal shooting in New Hanover neighborhood early Saturday morning
He rang the bell, and was pounding on the door at 3 AM. The homeowner, Rodney Jester opened the door, and David Rose attempted to force his way inside. He shot Jester.
Jester's wife attempted to shut the door and Rose tried to forcibly enter, according to the release. Jester grabbed his gun and shot once through the door, striking Rose in the head.
Jester was taken to the hospital. Rose was taken to the morgue.
"Under our state's laws, individuals have the right to defend themselves when they believe they are in imminent danger," [New Hanover County Sheriff Ed] McMahon said in the release.
That press release was issued after they conferred with District Attorney Ben David. The homeowner is not facing any charges, though the Sheriff's office is still investigating.
