Death By Selfie. Again

You can't take your likes and clicks with you. Russian beautician, Inessa Polenko, falls off 170 feet to her death at Black Sea cliff in Georgia

This isn't the first time I've seen a story about someone doing something to get that perfect photo, that ended in their death, or at least ended with serious injury. It won't be the last time, either. People really are that narcissistic.

A Russian beautician fell nearly 200 feet to her death when she climbed over a barrier at a popular cliff-viewing platform overlooking the Black Sea.

Inessa Polenko, 39, took in the picturesque scenery at the Gagry viewing point in Abkhazia, Georgia when she reportedly attempted to get a better view but took the fatal 170-foot tumble.

Safety barriers? Rules? They don't apply when you're taking a selfie! Or something.

The first time I became aware of this was when the 3 girls in Utah were hit by train when they were standing on the tracks taking selfies. Selfie Tragedy Forever Impacts Those Left Behind. They didn't pay attention to the train's horn, which was blaring at them. Two were killed instantly. The third died a few days later in hospital. I don't think I heard about this when they

Then there was a case close to home from last year when 3 kids in Chicago were sitting on the El tracks to take a photo on their way to Lollapalooza, and one of them leaned back and touched the third rail. The 3rd rail for Chicago commuter trains carries 600 volts, at a whole lot of amps. I don't think anyone died, but several were hospitalized.

If you look you can find instances of people being mauled by wild animals, falling off cliffs, being swept out to sea by crashing tides, falling off high towers, and being hit by trains or being electrocuted. In short there is no end to the list of ways people have found to win a Darwin award because they think they will get a ton of likes, wherever the cool kids are fishing for likes these days. (The Wiki has a list, though some people say it is very incomplete. "Selfie" is not usually listed as the cause of death, nor is stupidity.)
