It can be hard to be sure today. Man who fatally shot Kansas City businessman acted in self-defense: Prosecutors
“The homicide will be declined due to self-defense,” Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker’s office said in a statement released Friday afternoon. “Evidence showed the man who shot Bartrom fired a handgun after Bartrom struggled with the man and Bartrom tried to pull the man from his vehicle. Jackson County prosecutors came to this legal conclusion in consultation with police detectives.”
All murders are homicides, but not all homicides are murders.
Jackson County includes Kansas City, Missouri in the extreme western part of the state.
The shooting took place in January, which seems a bit long, given the circumstances as they are described. But the prosecutor had to wait for the detectives to complete their investigation and report.
Self-defense is a human right.
