How Is That Bail Reform Working Out?

I think we should ask the relatives of the victims for their opinion. High school student murdered classmate while on pretrial release for carjacking, gun cases: prosecutors - CWB Chicago

With bail reform, it doesn't matter how many times someone breaks the law, they won't lock people up until they have a dead body.

A Chicago high school student on pretrial release for several juvenile cases, including aggravated carjacking and gun possession, shot and killed a classmate at an Englewood gas station, prosecutors say.

Keion Thomas, 17, was detained as a public safety threat by Judge Susana Ortiz on Friday. He is the 33rd person charged with murder, attempted murder, or trying to shoot someone last year while on felony pretrial release.

Englewood is one of the 77 neighborhoods in Chicago. It is located on the south side of the city, and apparently there was a 2019 TV show called South Side that was set in Englewood.

CWB Chicago is keeping track of the count, because the judge in Cook County, who dreamed up this particular version of social-justice bail reform, refused to acknowledge that there were any problems reported due to the no-cash-bail insanity.

CWBChicago began our series of reports in November 2019 after Cook County Chief Judge Timothy Evans publicly stated, “We haven’t had any horrible incidents occur” under the court’s bond reform initiative.

I think we've had a few horrible incidents, including this one.
