Tuesday Links - 9 January

Mike Rowe starts us off with The Rowe’s are Much Obliged

If you follow my mom’s page, you’ve probably heard my dad had a serious heart attack the day after Christmas. Obviously, we’ve all been worried, and anxious to understand what comes next. I’m happy to report that he’s home, and beginning what could be a long road back.

Lawrence Person's BattleSwarm Blog - BREAKING: Wayne LaPierre Resigns As NRA Head

Someone free of LaPierre’s taint, like former, well-respected NRA-ILA head Chris Cox, should be brought in to clean out Wayne’s Augean stables. Until those urgent reforms are carried out, NRA still won’t get any of my money.

Meep - Recent News in Political Pensions: Rudy Giuliani, Ed Burke, and More. The bit on Ed Burke, of Chicago interested me.

As is usual with these Chicago/Illinois political corruption cases, it was a federal criminal prosecution.

As per this Reason piece from 2020, not all states have laws or regulations in place when public employees are convicted of crimes, as to what happens with their pensions

Victory Girls - Harvard Snobs Thumb Noses At Christopher Rufo

People on the left plagiarizing their papers. People on the left completely transforming education for our kids to include more sexualized books and less of, you know, the basics-reading (let the Drag Queen/registered sex offender do that), writing (some kids don’t even know how to use pronouns) and (racist) arithmetic. Meh. Who needs test scores, anyway? Who needs kids who (snort) read good? Not Harvard!

Wombat-socho - Rule 5 Sunday: Coffee, please

Coffee. Tread juice. Java. Is there anything it can’t do?

Tam at View from the Porch - The Music of the Gears

What you're hearing there is sixteen very angry little cylinders arranged in a vee, each one displacing just under a hundred cc's, being force-fed air from a supercharger drawing through a pair of SU carburetors. The result was six hundred frantic horsepower at twelve thousand ear-piercing RPM.

Again from Mike Rowe - All of You Who Worried About My Dad

I sure do appreciate all the well wishes from so many of you worried about my dad, who continues to recover at home from a heart attack (or two) the day after Christmas.

The College Fix - Some Harvard scholars demand return to academic freedom, free speech on campus

Ramseyer criticized the growing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion bureaucracy at Harvard, noting in an email to The College Fix that “the DEI statements required of job applicants are a straightforward political loyalty oath.”

Pixy Misa at Ambient Irony - Daily News Stuff 8 Centaurus 2023: Better Than A Poke In The Eye With A Particle Accelerator Edition

The East Coast is sinking at a worrying rate, by which they apparently mean, not nearly fast enough. (Ars Technica)

By 2mm per year. Where I live, that would have the waves lapping at the bottom of the hill I'm near the top of in just, oh, half a million years, give or take.
