From Billboard we get sad news. Denny Laine, Wings and The Moody Blues Co-Founder, Dies at 79
I never associate Denny Laine with the Moody Blues, because by the time I had come to appreciate that band, he had already moved on.
I think of him more as member of Paul McCartney and Wings. Laine played guitar, bass, and also sang backing vocals on different songs.
The quintessential recording of Wings being "Band on the Run." So let's listen to it. The album didn't get much recognition initially, but was eventually certified as 3 times platinum. Post Beatles Paul McCartney hadn't gotten much love either from the music industry or the public.
It didn't help that McCartney didn't want to release any singles from the album, though he was convinced eventually. Today's song was the 2nd single released. It came out in April on 1974, and won the 1975 Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus.
This is "Band on the Run" by Paul McCartney and Wings. It was the title song to their 1973 album.
