But I wouldn't count on it. Murder charge dropped in case of Milton, Ont., man accused of killing armed intruder | Globalnews
In Texas or Oklahoma, the cops would have bought this guy a drink, but this happened in Canada so they arrested him and charged him with murder.
So what would you do if armed intruders broke into your home?
Mian, who lived in the home with his mother, confronted the suspects and a number of gunshots were fired. When police arrived, they found and identified one of the suspects as 21-year-old Alexander Amoroso-Leacock of Toronto. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He owned the gun legally. Aside from the guy who got shot, cops did arrest one other bad guy, who had a gun illegally. (I'm shocked to discover that criminals don't obey the law.) Three others ran like rabbits.
So cops arrested him for defending himself and his family, threw him in jail.
And did the Crown (the Canadian version of the DA) talk about Justice, or Rights, or lawlessness when they dropped the charges? Of course not. They decided they couldn't win, which is all they care about. You don't think they actually care about Justice, do you?
The Crown withdrew the second-degree murder charge laid against Ali Mian Monday, saying there is no reasonable prospect of a conviction.
[The attorney for homeowner] also said Mian should never have been charged with murder for protecting his mother from someone that broke into his home.
Self-defense is a human-right, but Canada doesn't see it that way.
UPDATE: It seems that self-defense is NOT legal in Canada. From PragerU: Canadians Have No Right to Self-Defense
