Okay, that's extreme. They don't have the manpower to respond. Suspected rooftop robber shot in Lincoln Park
Three calls were made to 911 over a 20 minute span. Cops didn't show up until the homeowner shot the would-be intruder.
Lincoln Park is one of the 77 neighborhoods in the City of Chicago. It is one of the more affluent areas in the city. The lake shore is home to one of the best beaches in the city, North Avenue Beach, and Lincoln Park, from which the neighborhood takes its name. It is home to The Second City comedy revue, which gave us the likes of the Belushi Brothers, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, and a lot of the early cast members of Saturday Night Live (from back in the dark ages when it was still funny). It is also home to what was my favorite Spanish Tapas restaurant, Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeeba! I haven't been there in decades, but it seems to still be going strong. (Tapas is the Spanish version of Dim Sum.)
Anyway the suspect apparently got access to the property by way of a construction site next to the property she tried to break into.
CBS 2 spoke with the homeowner who didn't want to appear on camera, but he said he wanted to protect his home and his family. He pointed out a rope draped over the side of the building. It's a way the suspect could have rappelled onto their roof.
The first 2 calls were for a "suspicious person," as defined in the 911 records. The 3rd call was for shots fired, and then the police showed up. So if your plan is to call 911 and wait to be rescued, you might need to come up with Plan B.
Self-defense is a human-right, and it is becoming more of a thing in Chicago.
Post Script: Whenever I think of Second City, I think of this scene from Stripes, in which Bill Murray talks about going to Wisconsin, in the way that only someone from Chicago could do. (He was born in Evanston, just north of the city, and attended Loyola University.) I always used to tell people that Second City was like Saturday Night Live without network censors. I haven't been there is decades. Make sure you go to a show that has improv after the main show. Aside for those listed above, other Second City alumni include Alan Arkin, Joan Rivers, Peter Boyle, Gilda Radner, Tim Kazurinsky, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Bob Odenkirk, and more. Second City Toronto gave us John Candy, Martin Short, Dave Thomas, and more. I wouldn't be surprised to find that it has morphed into a Woke mess that is no longer funny.
