This isn't a case of resources not being available. This is a case of resources having something better to do. KCPD addresses concerns about response time in Klymax Lounge nightclub shooting
911 was at called 1:04 about "suspicious activity." No cops were dispatched. At 1:08 911 was called about people with guns. No cops were dispatched. At 1:25 911 was called because there had been a shooting. Cops were there in about a minute.
"Early on in the investigation, there was some discussion about calling 911, we did receive a 911 call at 1:08 a.m. about a suspicious vehicle," [KCPD Chief of Police Stacey] Graves said. "At that time, officers were being dispatched on calls that involved imminent threat or danger to someone's life. At 1:25 a.m., we got a call of a shooting and officers were on scene within one minute. I just wanted to clear that up."
If they had come at 1:09 or 1:10 maybe they could have prevented something from happening, but those calls were not considered life threatening. They probably should have been considered high priority.
On May 21, five people were shot, three of them — Antoinette Brenson, Clarence Henderson and Jason McConnell — were killed.
But then this is the problem with calling 911. They are not in the business of preventing crime, not really. They have no duty to protect you. They show up after the fact and try to figure out what happened.
Calling 911 is a fine thing to do, but if you think that will solve all of your problems, you are mistaken.
